A gala concert of ballet soloists at the House of Scientists, held in the reception rooms of Grand Duke Vladimir Alexandrovich's Palace next door to the Hermitage. The programme brings together excerpts from the classical repertoire — the great Tchaikovsky pas de deux, Petipa variations, some 20th-century work — in one of the finest imperial interiors in the city.
Bureau's take
Gala evenings can be uneven, but the setting compensates for any weakness of programme. The Vladimir Palace's ballroom sees no better use than this.
