Ilya Papoyan — Tchaikovsky Competition laureate recital
About
A solo piano recital by Ilya Papoyan — a Petersburg pianist and laureate of the International Tchaikovsky Competition — at the Capella Concert Hall on the Moika Embankment. Papoyan trained at the special music school of the Rimsky-Korsakov Petersburg Conservatoire under Olga Kurnavina and Professor Alexander Sandler, and now continues at the Conservatoire proper. The programme is characteristic of the young Russian competition circuit — substantial 19th and 20th-century piano repertoire, presented in full-recital format. The Petersburg Capella is a chamber concert hall of around 700 seats on the Moika, a short walk from Nevsky Prospekt — a serious venue for solo piano.
Bureau's take
A Tchaikovsky Competition laureate in one of Petersburg's better chamber halls. Low-risk ticket in a serious room — the sort of evening Petersburg concert-goers use to spot the next generation.
