The Penates estate — country home and studio of Ilya Repin, the leading Russian realist painter of the late 19th and early 20th centuries — is 45 km north-west of Petersburg on the Gulf of Finland shore, in the town of Repino (named for him). Repin spent the last three decades of his life here and chose it as his burial place; his grave is in the park. The museum was opened in 1940 as one of the first memorial museums in Russia, under the Russian Academy of Arts. It presents Repin's working environment and later paintings in the setting he actually lived and painted in. This ticket is for the park and grounds — the studio and house have separate admission.
