About
The house museum of Pavel Chistyakov (1832-1919) — Russian painter, portraitist and one of the most influential teachers in the history of the Imperial Academy of Arts — in Pushkin (Tsarskoye Selo). Chistyakov taught Ilya Repin, Vasily Polenov, Vasily Surikov and Viktor Vasnetsov, among others; his methods shaped the mainstream of Russian realist painting. The house was built in 1878 to a design by architect A. Kh. Kolb and is a listed example of late-19th-century Russian wooden domestic architecture. Chistyakov lived and taught here for more than 40 years. Combine with a visit to the Catherine Palace on the same Pushkin day trip.
