About
The estate-museum of Gavriil Derzhavin (1743-1816) — Russian poet, statesman and one of the defining figures of Russian 18th-century literature — at 118 Fontanka Embankment. The site was substantially restored between 2003 and 2011 and now includes not only the mansion where Derzhavin lived from 1791 to 1816 but also the Home Theatre, the Orangery and the estate garden. The Central Building holds the literary-memorial exhibition on Derzhavin and Russian literature of his era, across 16 rooms of recreated interiors. Includes rooms Derzhavin used for his official duties (he served as Minister of Justice under Alexander I) and for private literary work. One of the more substantial 18th-century preserved literary sites in central Petersburg.
