Priyutino Literary and Art Estate-Museum — admission
About
Priyutino is a 19th-century country estate 6 km north-east of central Petersburg, once the country seat of Alexei Olenin — director of the Imperial Public Library and president of the Academy of Arts — and one of the more important literary salons of the Petersburg intelligentsia in the first third of the 19th century. Alexander Pushkin visited from 1828, drawn by the Olenins' younger daughter Anna; more than ten poems he wrote for her survive. Other guests included Gavriil Derzhavin, Nikolai Gnedich (translator of Homer into Russian), the Krylov brothers, Karl Bryullov and Ivan Krylov the fabulist. The museum today occupies the surviving estate buildings and grounds. Reachable by suburban rail plus a short walk from Bernhardovka Station. Reasonable pick for visitors interested in the Pushkin and Silver Age literary background.
Bureau's take
One of the more atmospheric literary-country-estate museums around Petersburg — Pushkin, Krylov and Bryullov all came here. A half-day trip from the city.
