Almar — Beauty and the Beast (an Einstein evening)
About
Almar — a chamber theatrical piece framed around one day in the life of Albert Einstein in August 1945. On that day Einstein says goodbye to a woman he loves; the piece finds him alone, reflecting on the coming atomic destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and on his own personal responsibility for what his physics has enabled. The 'Beauty and the Beast' subtitle names the doubled figure at the centre of the piece: the physicist as gentle intellectual and as the destroyer of two cities. The staging works in a distilled, focused register. At the Ekaterinsky Sobranie. In Russian; language-heavy.
Bureau's take
A serious contemporary Russian chamber piece on Einstein and Hiroshima. Language-heavy — for Russian-fluent visitors interested in the specific historical question.
