About
A coach tour to Pavlovsk with a visit to the Palladian Pavlovsk Palace — the country residence of Emperor Paul I and his wife Empress Maria Feodorovna, one of the quieter and more architecturally restrained of the imperial residences around Petersburg. The tour covers the state halls and the private residential rooms, which retain the intimate character Maria Feodorovna gave them: she was actively involved in the interior programme and the personal effects give an unusually direct picture of imperial family life. The surrounding park runs to more than 600 hectares in the English picturesque manner — one of the largest 18th-century landscape parks in Europe — and features original sculptural groups scattered through the landscape rather than reconstructed replacements. About 30 km south of Petersburg.
