International Sand Sculpture Festival at the Peter and Paul Fortress
About
The 22nd edition of the International Sand Sculpture Festival at the Peter and Paul Fortress — an annual open-air summer exhibition held on the Alexeyevsky Ravelin, one of the fortress's outer earthworks. Dozens of large-scale sculptures made from thousands of tonnes of sand by internationally credited masters. The 2026 theme is 'The Delight of Creation'. The exhibition covers references drawn from art, literature, film and science-fiction settings — recognisable architectural forms alongside imaginary scenes and romantic set-pieces. Runs the summer months. Combine with a general Peter and Paul Fortress visit — a separate ticket may be required for the sand-sculpture area.
Bureau's take
One of the defining Petersburg summer events — large-scale sand sculpture in front of the Peter and Paul Fortress. Weather-dependent but worth a visit if the sun is out.
