About
A theatrical project by Monplezir Theatre based on Nikolai Gogol's 'Petersburg Tales' — the collection of stories (The Nose, The Overcoat, Nevsky Prospekt, and their kin) that established the city's specific literary atmosphere of the uncanny, the ironic and the socially precise. The staging combines vivid street scenes with elements of the fantastical, characteristic of Monplezir's approach to the classical Russian repertoire. The company has developed a recognisable house style: bright, physical, mixing high and low registers within the same evening. In Russian; language-heavy — Gogol's specific verbal invention is central to the experience.
