The Count of Luxembourg
About
Franz Lehár's operetta The Count of Luxembourg (Der Graf von Luxemburg, 1909) at the St Petersburg State Music Hall Theatre. A struggling nobleman is paid by a Russian prince to marry an opera singer he has never met so that she can acquire a title. Comic complications ensue across three acts.
Bureau's take
Lehár is best known for The Merry Widow; The Count of Luxembourg is arguably his sharpest score after that. A comfortable operetta evening.
