A concert by the Choir of the Valaam Monastery, drawn from the male-voice choral tradition of the Russian Orthodox Church. Valaam — an island monastery in Lake Ladoga north-east of Petersburg — is one of the historically defining centres of Russian monastic vocal tradition, and its choir is regularly on the concert stage. Programme: traditional Russian Orthodox spiritual chants — the male-voice a cappella register at the centre of the tradition — presented as a concert programme rather than a liturgical service. At the Bolshoi Concert Hall 'Oktyabrsky' (BKZ Oktyabrsky).
