A recital by Ivan Bessonov — a Petersburg-born pianist who at 18 had already won the Grand Prix at the International Youth Chopin Competition and prizes at the Anton Rubinstein Competition, the Grand Piano Competition and others. In 2018 he became the first Russian musician to win the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition. Bessonov also composes, works with major Russian conductors (Vladimir Spivakov, Valery Gergiev) and performs regularly on the international festival circuit. Born in Petersburg in 2002; the current programme runs across substantial 19th and 20th-century piano repertoire. At the Shostakovich Philharmonia, central Petersburg.
