A performance of Swan Lake at the Hermitage Theatre — the small 1789 court theatre by Giacomo Quarenghi (see the venue page). Choreography follows the Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov canon. The interest of this specific staging is the room: an 18th-century court theatre seating around 250 in stone amphitheatre tiers. Swan Lake at this scale is a very different experience from the Mariinsky main stage — closer to the audience, chamber-scale forces, without the large-hall theatrical distance. The Prince Siegfried / Odette / Odile plot is the standard Tchaikovsky ballet canon.
