Painting a musical roly-poly doll — masterclass with tea
About
A children's craft workshop at Izba-Zabava — a small Russian-folk-life museum in the city — where participants paint an 11-centimetre 'nevalyashka' (a musical roly-poly doll, one of the standard traditional Russian children's toys). An instructor guides the painting; each participant leaves with the finished piece as a keepsake. The workshop closes with tea served from a real samovar and traditional Russian pastries. The setting itself — a mocked-up traditional peasant izba — does much of the atmospheric work. A reasonable pick for visitors with primary-school-age children who want a hands-on Russian-folk experience rather than another museum walk.
Bureau's take
One of the better hands-on Russian-folk workshops for visiting families with young children. Language load is low — the painting works regardless.
