Moscow Cossack Choir
About
A programme by the Moscow Cossack Choir at the Lensovet Palace of Culture. Repertoire draws on Cossack polyphonic vocal traditions — Don, Kuban and Terek Cossacks — combined with military classics, romances and folk-influenced popular song. The staging is characteristic of the genre: Cossack polyphonic singing combined with live instrumental accompaniment, ceremonial Cossack dancing, and choreographed shashka (Cossack sabre) flankirovka — the twirling and manipulation of the traditional Cossack sword as a performance skill. Ensemble members are graduates of Moscow conservatories with substantial concert experience. At the Lensovet Palace of Culture on the Petrogradskaya Side. In Russian; the music and choreography carry the substance of the evening.
