Nebylitsa-Moryanitsa — a sea-creature fairy-tale museum
About
A themed museum dedicated to sea creatures from folklore — a sister project to the Osobnyak-Nebylitsa, and appropriate to a city built on and around water. Made by artists, designers and writers working with contemporary multimedia; each installation carries its own story. The entrance takes visitors into the bathyscaphe of the fictional Captain Aristarkh Polikarpovich Demidov, who — the story says — explored the ocean depths and discovered many wonders including the lost Atlantis. His cabin displays 'finds' and a giant map of the deep. From there the route runs through themed installations of sea-monster figures and folkloric water creatures. Family attraction; language load manageable, format visual.
Bureau's take
The sea-creature counterpart to the Fairy-Tale Mansion. Water was the point of Petersburg's founding; a museum of what lives under the water — real and invented — sits in the right city.
