About
A premiere at Subbota Theatre based on Yevgeny Schwartz's 1954 fairytale play An Ordinary Miracle (Obyknovennoye chudo). Schwartz — one of the most inventive Soviet-era playwrights — wrote his celebrated allegorical love story as a specifically warm-hearted meditation on the magic of everyday life. The play was the source of Mark Zakharov's beloved 1978 television film.
Bureau's take
Schwartz's An Ordinary Miracle is a specifically Russian classic. Zakharov's 1978 film is arguably its definitive reading; any staging works with that specific inheritance.
