About
John Gay's 1728 English ballad opera The Beggar's Opera at Subbota Theatre. The specific 18th-century London low-life comedy of Macheath, Polly Peachum and the underworld songs, later given a 20th-century Berlin reworking by Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill as The Threepenny Opera. Two acts.
Bureau's take
Gay's original is arguably as good as Brecht's version. A rare and thoughtful choice for a small independent room.
