Organ and Strings by Candlelight — Zimmer and Bach
About
A programme at the Yaani Kirik, a working Petersburg Lutheran church, combining organ works by Johann Sebastian Bach with string arrangements of Hans Zimmer film scores. Presented by candlelight. The Bach material draws on the composer's better-known organ output; the Zimmer selections are arranged for organ and string quintet, letting the church acoustic work on film-familiar material in a way most concert halls cannot. The room's acoustics — small Lutheran church — suit both traditions. In central Petersburg.
Bureau's take
A well-judged crossover programme for a church room. Familiar reference points and a serious acoustic.
