Planetarium No. 1 occupies a converted 19th-century gas holder on Obvodny Canal — one of the industrial buildings the city has adaptively reused for cultural programming. Its 37-metre projection dome is one of the largest of its kind in the world, powered by 40 synchronised projectors. The programme runs immersive multimedia shows on astronomy and space exploration, developed with leading design studios internationally. Sessions run on a timed schedule throughout the day. Language load is low: the visual environment carries the substance, and Russian narration doesn't affect the immersive quality. A reasonable pick for a rainy afternoon or an unusual evening.
