A two-act reconstruction of Shakespeare's tragedy at the Lensovet Theatre. Director Maria Romanova focuses on the emotional intensity of youth — the family quarrels, the impossible love, the friendships between the young men that shape the whole disaster — in a translation by Boris Pasternak that has become a Russian classic in its own right.

The Lensovet is one of the city's more thoughtful mid-sized dramatic theatres. Pasternak's translation is a piece of literature in itself; even if you don't understand every word, the sound of it carries.
