A nostalgic musical based on Sergei Dovlatov's novella 'The Foreigner' (Inostranka), at the KURT Theatre. Dovlatov — one of the essential post-Soviet Russian émigré writers — tells the story of Musya Tatarovich, a young woman from a well-off Soviet family who, despite her material comforts, feels displaced and cannot find her place. Musya emigrates from the Soviet Union to the United States in search of a solution; the novella and the musical follow what happens. In Russian; the story is language-heavy but the biographical Dovlatov context is internationally familiar.
