The Elder Son — Vampilov at the Lensovet Theatre
About
A staging of Alexander Vampilov's play The Elder Son at the Lensovet Theatre. The play is one of the defining voices of late-Soviet Russian theatre and Lensovet has a specific historical relationship to it: Igor Vladimirov's 1974 staging was a significant moment in the theatre's history, opening the Small Stage — the 'Leningrad Youth Theatre'. About 25 years later, in 2001, Vladislav Pazi's student class returned to the play in Yuri Butusov's staging, which attracted new attention. The current production is another return to this important text — a story about how ordinary people behave in difficult circumstances. In Russian; language-heavy.
Bureau's take
A serious Vampilov staging at the Lensovet Theatre — the specific house-history repertoire. For visitors following Russian post-war drama.
