Tango of Passion — Concord Orchestra
About
A programme of Argentine tango presented by Concord Orchestra — a Russian touring symphony orchestra — under the Italian conductor Fabio Pirola. The show combines full-orchestral arrangements of the tango repertoire with vocal solos from the tenor Carlos de Onofrio and choreographed dancing by international-level Argentine-tango competitors, including Raul Santana and Dana Sakimova. The score draws primarily from Astor Piazzolla's tango-nuevo output — the strand of Argentine tango that brought the form into the concert-hall — alongside the older repertoire. At BKZ Oktyabrsky, central Petersburg.
Bureau's take
A large-format tango programme — orchestra, dancers, tenor — rather than a small-room milonga. Works if you want the spectacle side of the genre.
