Tosno Regional Museum
About
A small regional history museum — also known as the Nursemaid's House and House of the Smolin Family — in the Leningrad Oblast town of Tosno, founded in 1991. The house was acquired in the mid-19th century by the Smolin brothers; Maxim Smolin's wife Maria Korchagina was the nursemaid of the Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, future Emperor Alexander III, which is the connection that gives the house its historical resonance. The first permanent exhibition opened in 1998 after the 1990s restoration. Collection covers the mid-19th-century domestic life of the Smolin family, the wider Tosno district, and the imperial-nursemaid tradition specifically. Tosno is about 55 km south-east of Petersburg.
