About
George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion at the St Petersburg Russian Drama Theatre. Shaw's 1913 comedy — Professor Higgins, Eliza Doolittle, the phonetics of the English class system — remains one of the finest comic plays of the early 20th century. The source of My Fair Lady, but a more argumentative animal than the musical suggests.
Bureau's take
Shaw at his sharpest, and a play that survives translation surprisingly well. The Russian Drama Theatre plays it as a debate rather than a romance.
