The Nutcracker (ballet)
About
Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker in a full ballet staging at the Teatralny Tsentr — a mid-format Petersburg theatre space that programmes the seasonal ballet for New Year audiences. The story is the standard Hoffmann-Tchaikovsky version: Marie's gift of a nutcracker doll, the battle with the Mouse King, and the journey to the Land of Sweets. The score is one of the most widely recognised works of the ballet canon. A more compact experience than seeing The Nutcracker at the Mariinsky historical stage — smaller room, closer sightlines, and the ticket easier to come by during the seasonal peak.
Bureau's take
A workable Nutcracker for visitors who couldn't get a Mariinsky seat over the New Year season. Smaller-scale but genuinely staged.
