About
Chekhov's The Seagull at MDT (Maly Drama Theatre / Theatre of Europe), led by Lev Dodin — one of the most important stage directors of the last half-century. Nina, Kostya, Trigorin, Arkadina, the seagull itself, and the country estate on which nothing quite happens and everything is decided. Chekhov's first great mature play.
Bureau's take
The MDT is arguably the most important repertory theatre in Russia. Dodin's Chekhov is unmissable if you have any interest at all in serious 20th- and 21st-century European theatre.
