About
Yevgeny Schwartz's 1944 anti-fascist play The Dragon at the Akimov Comedy Theatre. Schwartz — one of the most inventive Soviet-era playwrights — wrote his celebrated allegorical drama during the war; the play was immediately banned and only returned to the Russian stage in the late 1950s. Two acts.
Bureau's take
Schwartz's The Dragon is one of the essential works of Soviet-era stage allegory. A serious repertory reading.
