Jazz Dialogues: Trumpet and Baritone — Ivan Vasiliev Acoustic Band
About
A concert at the Jazz Philharmonic Hall from Ivan Vasiliev's acoustic band, built around the dialogue of trumpet and baritone saxophone — the two instruments that shaped the sound of the classic hard-bop small group. The Jazz Philharmonic is one of the more serious jazz venues in Russia; the programme is played straight, without amplification.
Bureau's take
The trumpet-baritone pairing is a specific pleasure — closer to a Gerry Mulligan quartet than to anything on daytime radio. Serious jazz for a serious listener.
