The Storm
About
Alexander Ostrovsky's 1859 drama The Storm (Groza) at the Bolshoi Drama Theatre (BDT). Ostrovsky's specifically 19th-century-set drama about Katerina — the specifically young Volga-region merchant wife whose specific longing for freedom leads to her celebrated suicide by drowning.
Bureau's take
The Storm is one of the essential works of the 19th-century Russian repertoire. The BDT is the great post-war Russian dramatic theatre.
