Avksenty Tsagareli's 1882 Georgian comedy Khanuma at the Akimov Comedy Theatre. A resourceful Tbilisi matchmaker, a spendthrift young nobleman, and one of the finest musical farces in the Caucasian tradition. In Russia, the material is best known from Georgy Tovstonogov's celebrated 1972 BDT production. Two acts.

Tovstonogov's Khanuma is one of the great Soviet-era theatre productions; any current staging works with that inheritance. Warm, funny and a specific window on Tbilisi as it lived in the Russian imagination.
