About
A stage adaptation of Shichiro Fukazawa's 1956 Japanese novel The Ballad of Narayama at Masterskaya. In an impoverished mountain village, the elderly are carried up Mount Narayama by their eldest sons and left to die — a folk practice the story turns into an extraordinarily concentrated moral test. The source of Shohei Imamura's Palme d'Or-winning 1983 film.
