About
A guided tour of the Brusnitsyn Mansion on Kozhevennaya Line on Vasilyevsky Island — the residence of the wealthy leather-trading Brusnitsyn brothers. The interior is one of the more distinctive surviving examples of late-19th-century eclecticism in Petersburg: a substantial decorative programme in mixed period styles. The brothers Nikolai, Georgi and Alexander Brusnitsyn acquired the mansion in 1882 and commissioned its reconstruction in 1884, hiring architect Anatoly Kovsharov for the work. The result — completed over several years — combines Renaissance, Rococo and Moorish elements in a single house. The Brusnitsyn Cultural Quarter now programmes the mansion as a working cultural space. Vasileostrovskaya metro.
