About
A stage version of Andrei Bely's 1913 novel Petersburg at Vasilyevsky Theatre. Bely's novel — a hallucinatory portrait of the city on the edge of the 1905 Revolution, published in fragments and later hailed by Nabokov as one of the four great masterpieces of 20th-century prose — is one of the most ambitious pieces of Russian modernism.
Bureau's take
Bely's novel is Petersburg's answer to Ulysses. Any stage adaptation is by definition a compression; Vasilyevsky's version keeps the vertigo intact.
