Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet in the classic Leonid Lavrovsky choreography — the original 1940 Kirov production, still one of the defining Russian readings of the score. This staging marks the 85th anniversary of the premiere. Libretto by Adrian Piotrovsky, Sergei Radlov and Lavrovsky himself. Cast at this performance: Nadezhda Batoeva (Juliet), Timur Askerov (Romeo), Yevgeny Deryabin (Tybalt), with dancers from the Boris Eifman Academy of Dance in the ensemble roles. Set design by Pyotr Vilyams; lighting by Andrei Ponizovsky and Yegor Kartashov. At the Mariinsky Theatre historical stage (Mariinsky I) on Teatralnaya Ploshchad. Nearest metro: Sadovaya. Book well ahead; sightlines and prices both reward planning.
