Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker over the New Year season, with the Uzbek-Russian principal dancer Farukh Ruzimatov and stars of the Mikhailovsky Theatre. Cast at this performance: Ivan Zaitsev, Irina Perren, Marat Shemiunov and Veronika Markova. The story is the familiar Hoffmann fairy-tale set at Christmas: Marie's nutcracker doll, the Mouse King, the good magician Drosselmeyer, and the journey to the Land of Sweets. The score is one of the most widely known works of the ballet canon. At BKZ Oktyabrsky, central Petersburg — a large concert hall adapted for the seasonal ballet programme. A distinct experience from seeing The Nutcracker at the Mariinsky historical stage; the acoustics and sightlines are different.
