About
A stage version of Sasha Sokolov's 1976 experimental novel A School for Fools at Masterskaya. Sokolov's novel — Nabokov called it 'an enchanting, tragic and touching book' — is one of the summits of late-Soviet underground prose. The play carries the specifically non-linear register the book demands.
Bureau's take
Sokolov's A School for Fools is one of the essential works of 20th-century Russian literature. A serious stage adaptation is a specific ambition; Masterskaya's version is worth catching.
