A Midsummer Night's Dream
About
Shakespeare's comedy at Vasilyevsky Theatre — one of the city's most consistent mid-sized dramatic stages. The production stays close to the play's dual world of Athenian court and enchanted forest, treating the fairies as the working part of the machinery rather than as decoration. The mechanicals get their proper share of the evening.
Bureau's take
A serious repertory reading rather than a musical adaptation. Vasilyevsky's version keeps its trust in the text; the comedy still lands.
