Mama-Cat
About
A family musical from actor and director Andrey Noskov, staged at the Estrada Theatre named after Arkady Raikin. Four cats decide to raise a lost seagull chick and teach it to fly — a mission that turns into a story about parenthood, patience and self-discovery. The score is bright and singable; the show has been a Petersburg favourite since its premiere.
Bureau's take
A rare Russian family musical that avoids condescending to children. Works for adults too — the seagull-chick story quietly rhymes with Chekhov's Seagull, though the show wears its literary references lightly.
