Alexander Vampilov's 1972 drama Last Summer in Chulimsk at the Molodezhny Theatre on the Fontanka. In a small Siberian town, a young waitress works out how much of the world she is prepared to fight for and how much she is willing to lose. Vampilov's last completed play before his death.

Vampilov is the great missing playwright of the Russian 20th century — drowned aged 35 in 1972 on Lake Baikal. Last Summer in Chulimsk is arguably his most emotionally direct piece.
